I've gone mini crazy!

I'm still waiting for my esc, but it'll be here tomorrow I hope. Then we'll be ready to driver 'her' pink mini.
I've found something really cool.
Mini oval racing! They're using modified motors, so they're getting some crazy speed.

It's from www.rc-mini.net Lots of useful build tips too!

The mini body is nearly finished.

My girlfriend has painted it pink and followed my advice about the white wheel arches. The decals are not on it yet, but this is basically it. I think it looks pretty good- for a pink car!

Carbon upper deck for TA05

Someone gave me carbon upper deck for my TA05. I had to cut it down as the front bit just wouldn't go on without getting in the way of the steering tie rod. However, it should give me more rigidity.
I tried to cut with my nippers though :(

I also cut down the rear stiffening plate. But I'm not sure that that was a smart move, as some rigidity has been lost. I think it has enough though.

I also picked up this hunk of junk as a part time esc for the mini. Should keep my girl happy. She is busily painting the body pink. Might be ready by tomorrow!

I will also have my Dodge Stratus 2 body ready by the weekend. Should give me more downforce and a better balanced car. Especially for racing in the stock class. I'll let you see it when I'm done!

I built an Tamiya FF mini in one day!

Check it out! It's actually for my girlfriend, who is probably gonna paint it pink. A nice British racing green would be much better I think.

Unfortunately, I don't have a spare esc, so I'm thinking about this cheap and cheerful one secondhand.

Typhoon on the way!

As a result of the coming typhoon, the weather didn't play ball, and todays race at Wangan was called a result after the first two qualifing heats - only after I'd gone and bought a yokomo stock motor though :(
I had a few headaches at the race, tires were'nt working so well, and also I had to set-up my new Sanwa M8 control, and my Tamiya RZ gave up the ghost. I'd actually melted the commutator! That wasn't the only thing that melted either; it seems that stock motor racing is a lot harder on equipment since the Tamiya bettery connectors I was using melted too!

The most dissapointing thing was knowing that I could have gone faster...and that I didn't get much video, only the first GT class heat. Enjoy!

My m8 is here! Coupled with my new servo, should be sweet! But i've gotta put the gear together first! Will be ready bu the weekend (the wangan aniversary pre race on the w/e) or sure!

Dog house!

I've been busy tidying up my RC cars, since they are strewn all over the kitchen, so I've had no chance to put in the new servo. The weather is not so great anyway. I really wanna build that FF mini, but there are so many other things I have to do! I'll be getting my Sanwa M8 tonight too!

Anyway, I managed to find the A mains from the latest world championship race in Germany on you tube. It rained a lot it seems, its nice to see electric in the wet. We don't race electric here in Japan when it rains. :(
Anyway, here is A1

My new servo. Futaba S9550 low profile :)

Check out the spec:
Volts Torque Speed
4.8V 66.6 oz-in. 0.14 sec/60°
6.0V 83.3 oz-in. 0.11 sec/60°
Dimensions Weight
1.6 x 0.8 x 1.0 in. 1.6 oz.
It was about $90 dollars though. :( But I'm sure will be worth the money!
Here is a link to Futaba explaing why digital servos are better. It also has ball bearings which will make a lot more difference. I paid for my m8 fm control today too, so I hope it'll be here by the weekend. :)

Here is the old one for comparison.

Volts Torque Speed
4.8V 42 oz-in. 0.2 sec/60°
6.0V 53 oz-in. 0.16 sec/60°
Dimensions Weight
1.54 x 0.79 x 1.42 1.6 oz.

Tamiya challenge at J & K.

I didn't have a good race again, I hope I start getting lucky next week at Platopia! I'll be entering in my first stock class race! It rained most of the day so we had to wait until about 3pm to start racing, but it all went smooth in the end!
Also, got a FF mini for the next race, sweet! I will look forward to racing that! (Check out the buggy race movie at the bottom!)
Here's my mini!

Ueda sans Swift Tamiya FF

Great air from Fukusan, in the 2 car tam tech race!

And some of the winners: not me! :(

Crashes and jumps. The full race of the buggy king class!

Power on circuit.

It's free, and it's pretty far away, but it is a nice circuit to drive. I went there with Matsuka san who also does RC by scooter, but he has a nicer one than me! It was a really good day. We had a splash of rain, but it soon dried up. I really got to grips with setting up the rebound too, the car is nice and soft now, which I seemed to have worked out is better for tarmac. Should be ready for the Tamiya Challenge tommorow at J&K, IF the weather is dry (but it looks suspiciously like it will rain) and if I'm not ill. I think I have a fever coming...
Anyway, here is the track

Matsuka san, It's a bad hair day I think!

Matsuka sans TA05, he put the yokomo 23 turn motor in, but didn't have any decent batteries left to power it at the end of the day!

And a video of some nice drifting by some bloke.

Oh! And I almost forgot, on Yahoo Auction I managed to get an Sanwa (Airtronics) m8 fm control for $105. Sweet! I can't wait to get it.

Back into nitro!

After my disapointment last weekend and after destroying my super 10, i've decided to rebuild my TR15. But this is not gonna be like the TR15 I had before!
First I'm gonna make it able to go off road properly, fist by changing the damper oil from 500 to 300 weight, then by drilling the holes in the damper pistons to a much wider diameter.

I've also started putting in a two speed gearbox from the super 10 and also the 2 stroke CVR engine. It's gonna be a whole different beast!

Best RC video!

This is video from Kanki, one of the Fuji Model drivers.
This video from his blog has the best video of onboard racing I have ever seen!

Check it out here!

Not a good race for me.

Fukusan was in the lead of the N1 calss, the race I wanted to win, and he was leading by a long way!

Then he got caught by no 2, and was finally passed just before the line. Great race Fukusan! Hard luck though mate!

Nice air from Toshiosan below in the buggy class. :)

Nice shot from the world challenge class!

I tried to start a race using a type of tire that I'd never used before. That gave me a whole host of set-up issues that any EXPERIENCED racer could have predicted! What a shame, but I still had fun! My phone ran of battery so there is not much video I'm afraid :( and I got a puncture on my scooter on the way back home! But I'm back now, and I'll try and get video up later! Can't wait until next week at J & K!

Tamiya GP tomorrow!

I'm nearly ready. My biggest race so far. The last GP was big too, but this time I think I have the capability to win! I'll try and get some video too!
